What is OCPI (Open Charge Point Interface)?
OCPI (Open Charge Point Interface) is an innovative protocol that enables seamless communication between charging stations for electric vehicles and eMobility Service Providers (EMSPs) worldwide. The aim is to provide electric vehicle users with easy and extensive access to charging stations by sharing information about charging stations, availability, prices and transactions in a standardized manner.
OCPI facilitates direct data exchange between charging station operators (CPOs) and EMSPs. This includes data on charging stations, starting and stopping charging processes, tariff information and much more. Through this exchange, electric vehicle drivers can access a wider range of charging stations and use services from various providers.
OCPI is primarily used to:
- To communicate the availability of charging stations in real time
- Authenticate and authorize charging processes
- to make tariff information transparent
- To simplify the billing of charging processes.
